Styled by architect Marcel Breuer and nicknamed the \"Hot Rod\" by crews, it was geared for 110 mph, had 50 hp more than a standard RDC and sat 7 inches lower. Split up into the New Haven's regular RDC pool after about a year of Boston–New York service, the cars went on to Penn Central and then Amtrak, where the cab cars wore several schemes until retirement in the mid-1980s. This version depicts cars #27 and #28 in the Phase III scheme, with the red, white and blue nose stripes they wore at the end of their careers.
