This detailed Atlas HO Scale Master Gold GE Dash 8-40CW is based on the six-axle diesels delivered with the North American safety cab. The 4,000hp Dash 8-40CW was produced by General Electric between 1989 and 1993 as a follow-up to the successful Dash 8-40C locomotive. The most distinguishing feature of this model was the introduction of GE's version of the wide-nose North American Safety Cab. This style of cab would become a common sight on railroads across the country. Four major railroads purchased the Dash 8-40CW in fairly large quantities, including Conrail, CSX, Santa Fe and Union Pacific. Many of these units are still in regular mainline and heavy-haul freight service and others have gone on to secondary owners or into rebuild programs. This detailed model features a five-pole, skew-wound motor with dual flywheels, directional LED lighting, working front and/or rear ditch lights as appropriate, Accumate(R) magnetic knuckle couplers, accurate decoration and other roadname-appropriate body details. This replica comes equipped with a dual-mode ESU LokSound sound and DCC decoder for operation on DCC and DC layouts (with limited sound capabilities on in DC operation).
