Looking for an authentic, richly detailed, and illuminated caboose for your switching and local-service scenes? The Bowser N9 transfer caboose in Conrail colors is exactly what you need. The Despatch Shops N9 and N9E transfer cabooses were Penn Central-era clones of a New York Central conversion program using the frames of 40' boxcars. Over 200 examples of these classes and similar cars combined were built between 1968 and 1969. In the Penn Central and Conrail eras, they could be found all across their respective systems in local freight and other secondary service — and the prototypes can still be found today, some still working for their original owner!

What sets this model apart is the attention to detail Bowser is known for. It faithfully recreates the prototype with roadname- and era-specific details, etched-metal grating where applicable, interior detail and lighting, and flashing FRA markers per the prototype. The interior and auxiliary lighting are controlled with a magnet wand — a great interactive detail that brings the tail end of your local trains to life, or on display on the caboose track.

Features

  • HO scale (1:87)
  • N9 class transfer caboose
  • Conrail livery (blue)
  • Flashing FRA end marker lights
  • Ready-to-run (RTR)
  • Interior lighting included
  • Detailed interior
  • Prototype-faithful molded details (no roofwalks or ladders, per the N9)
  • Factory-mounted magnetic knuckle couplers
  • Free-rolling trucks with metal wheels
  • Ideal for yard service and transfer moves, 1970s-1980s era
