Into the dawn of diesel power? This Rapido Trains EMD FT A+B set, in AT&SF (freight scheme) #103 + 103A colors, nails the look of the locomotive that dieselized America.
What sets this model apart is Rapido's signature prototype fidelity. Electro-Motive's (EMC/GM) FT was the first truly successful road-freight diesel: built from 1939 to 1945 (about 1,096 units), it convinced the railroad industry to abandon steam. The demonstrator set toured the continent in 1939 to prove the point. FTs paired a cab (A) unit with a cabless booster (B) unit, permanently drawbar-coupled. This A+B set wears Santa Fe's blue-and-yellow freight scheme; the AT&SF was the largest FT buyer. Rapido faithfully reproduces the A and B carbodies, the louvers and period detailing. An ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder, five-pole motor, functional lighting and numerous separately applied details: it is all here.
