A one-of-a-kind giant, the GE U50C was built for a single customer: Union Pacific. A twin-engine unit of roughly 5,000 hp riding on two three-axle trucks, 40 were built between 1969 and 1971 to tame the heavy trains of the American West. Its temperamental reliability, however, led to early retirement by the mid-1970s. This version recreates the 5000-5011 series in their early as-delivered scheme (1970-1971).
