The Bicentennial with 3,600 horsepower: Norfolk & Western EMD SD45 #1776, by ScaleTrains' Rivet Counter line, wears the red, white and blue American Bicentennial scheme as it ran from 1974 to 1976.

What sets this model apart is Rivet Counter's signature prototype fidelity. Introduced in 1966, the SD45 was a ground-breaking high-horsepower locomotive: its 20-cylinder 20-645E3 prime mover produced 3,600 hp, a record at the time. Popular with major railroads, it was caught out by the 1973-74 oil embargo, when fuel efficiency and reliability became paramount; many were retired or rebuilt. N&W 1776, built in February 1970 in the 1765-1789 series (Phase IIb2), was repainted for the Bicentennial with its short hood cab, Leslie RS-5T-R horn and Motorola ASP-16 antenna.

This DCC and sound version comes with a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 decoder with Full Throttle and 20-645E3 sounds, and all the prototype-specific detailing the Rivet Counter line is known for.
