From late 2019 through 2025, CSX contracted GE, now Wabtec, to rebuild its aging AC4400CW locomotives: an upgraded control system and wiring, a high-pressure common-rail fuel system for up to 18% better fuel economy and, externally, an ET44-style cab with repositioned number boards and four side windows, plus new dynamic brake and inverter cabinets. No. 250, from the 228-279 series built in 1996, was repainted in 2026 to honor the nation's 250th anniversary.
This DCC and sound version comes with a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 decoder with Full Throttle, dual speakers and super-capacitors, and all the prototype-specific detailing the Rivet Counter line is known for.
