The Atlas Master HO Scale 42' Coil Steel Car with Fishbelly Side Sill is perfect for adding interest to your 1990s and later steel mill train consists. The increased volume of coiled-steel transportation gave rise to a new purpose-built freight car. Previously rolls of coiled-steel had generally traveled in specially equipped gondola cars. In the 1960s a lighter type of car emerged specifically for hauling coils of steel in an integral trough. The car type gained popularity and eventually over 17,000 cars were built. This 42' Coil Steel Car with Fishbelly Side Sill is patterned after cars introduced in the 1990s and in use in the 21st century. Features of the 42' Coil Steel Car with Fishbelly Side Sill include prototypical paint schemes and lettering see-through walkways, a removable hood on equipped cars, inside floor detail cut levers, metal wheels and AccuMate magnetic knuckle couplers.
