How much coil steel rolls past your layout every year?
In 2021, more than 561,000 carloads of steel traversed the rails in North America. Throughout history, transporting steel coils has been a staple of the rail industry, and these rolled steel sheets have been transported by all sorts of gondolas or specialized railcars. The Transverse Coil Car is Greenbrier's answer to the coil steel railcar market: this five-trough coil gondola can house up to five rolled steel coils in various sizes, reducing the number of trucks on highways carrying multiple smaller steel coils. As of mid-2024, Greenbrier has produced over 3,000 of these cars with more on the way, and some of the newest operators are CSX and Ferromex, both included in this run. Rapido is proud to offer this modern car full of details, taken right off of the original drawings — you'll want a fleet of these small but important coil cars operating on your layout.
