The 250th's ambassador on the Susquehanna: New York, Susquehanna & Western EMD SD45 #3634, by ScaleTrains' Rivet Counter line, wears the railroad's commemorative “America 250” scheme as its official America250 ambassador.
What sets this model apart is Rivet Counter's signature prototype fidelity. Introduced in 1966, the SD45 was a ground-breaking high-horsepower locomotive: its 20-cylinder 20-645E3 prime mover produced 3,600 hp. Popular with major railroads, it was caught out by the 1973-74 oil embargo; many were retired or rebuilt, but the NYS&W still runs them. No. 3634, ex-NYS&W 6542 and originally Burlington Northern 6542 built in August 1971, kept its 4-window cab sides, later blanked, and received its 250th anniversary scheme in 2026.
This DCC and sound version comes with a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 decoder with Full Throttle and 20-645E3 sounds, and all the prototype-specific detailing the Rivet Counter line is known for.
