Bowser HO – Fourgons de queue de transfert N9 & N9E

Bowser HO – N9 & N9E Transfer Caboose

Looking to cap off your diesel-era consists with that short, stripped-down caboose so emblematic of Northeastern railroading from the 1960s through the 1990s? This collection brings together every version of Bowser's N9 and N9E class transfer caboose. Short, stocky and no-nonsense, the transfer caboose was built for yard service and point-to-point moves — a quiet but very real role that adds instant operational credibility to your switching.

Bowser bases this caboose on a prototype with a rich history: born in the Despatch Shops of East Rochester (descended from the New York Central's N6 cabooses, later classed N9 under Penn Central), these spartan cabooses carried on under Conrail and across several belt railroads. The N9E variant is distinguished by its 6-volt electrical system, built in a run of just 40. This collection captures all that variety: Penn Central liveries (early and late), Conrail, Pittsburgh & Lake Erie, Indiana Harbor Belt across the decades, and more — some with flashing FRA end marker lights. By combining several of these variants, you build an authentically varied caboose fleet that mirrors the real railroads of the era. Ready to run and finely detailed, all of these cabooses include interior lighting and a detailed interior, bringing your trains the realism Bowser is known for.

What this collection brings together:

  • N9 and N9E class transfer cabooses, HO scale (1:87)
  • Multiple liveries and operators (Penn Central, Conrail, Pittsburgh & Lake Erie, Indiana Harbor Belt, and more)
  • Versions spanning the 1960s through the 1990s
  • Select versions with flashing FRA end marker lights
  • Interior lighting included and a detailed interior on every model
  • Prototype-faithful molded details (no roofwalks or ladders, per the N9/N9E)
  • Factory-mounted magnetic knuckle couplers, free-rolling trucks with metal wheels
  • Ready-to-run (RTR) models
  • Ideal for yard service and transfer moves on Northeastern layouts
