Rapido HO – LRC Locomotives, Coaches & Train Sets
Looking to recreate the fastest passenger train in Canadian railway history — that low, streamlined shape that has raced through the Windsor–Quebec Corridor since the 1980s? This collection brings together the Bombardier LRC (Light, Rapid, Comfortable) locomotives, coaches, and train sets from Rapido Trains. The backbone of VIA Rail's Corridor fleet, the LRC is a must-have for anyone modeling modern Canadian passenger rail — and a point of national pride to run on your layout.
Rapido recreates this train from the preserved LRC 6921 and the original blueprints. The LRC locomotive was remarkably powerful for its size: barely 12 feet tall and 63 feet long, it packed a 3,750 hp Alco 251F prime mover and two 250 kW Stamford alternators for head-end power. Built for 125 mph (restricted to 100 mph in service), it pulled the Metropolis express between Montreal, Dorval, and Toronto throughout the 1990s — 3 hours 59 minutes for the 335-mile run, still the fastest scheduled passenger service in Canadian history. On the coach side, Bombardier produced LRC-1 cars (Amtrak, 1980), then LRC-2 and LRC-3 cars for VIA (1981-1985). Rapido's coach model, based on the LRC-2 and LRC-3, offers the correct seating configuration for each scheme (2+2, 50/50, or 2+1), ball-bearing axles for exceptional rolling, and a lighting board with capacitors to prevent flicker. This collection captures all that variety, as single items or complete sets, across several liveries including some never offered before. Finely detailed, these models bring your layout the realism Rapido is known for.
