Rapido recreates this car from the original drawings, backed by field measurements. The Trenton Works 5277 is a 100-ton Plate C car with vertical exterior posts, unmistakable for its six long, squared-off end ribs that give it a rugged look, and for its door — wider than that of other 5277s — designed to ease the loading of bulky paper products. In the late 1990s, much of the fleet was repurposed for pulp service; because moisture was causing rotting issues, eight rectangular vents were added along the top and bottom of the sides, a detail Rapido offers as an option. One notable fact: at 500 cars, these hold the record for the largest batch of 100-ton Plate C cars built after 1980.
