Into classic Canadian passenger trains? This Rapido Trains stainless-steel Budd coach, in VIA Rail (current, teal) colors, nails the look of the postwar transcontinental streamliners.

What sets this model apart is Rapido's signature prototype fidelity. These fluted stainless-steel cars were built by the Budd Company for Canadian Pacific, which ordered 173 cars for its transcontinental train “The Canadian,” launched on April 24, 1955. Steam-heated when new, they passed to VIA Rail in 1978. Many were rebuilt with Head-End Power (HEP) from the 1990s; this model captures the HEP version. Rapido faithfully reproduces the fluting, 41-NDO-11 trucks, D22 brake rigging and multi-color interior. Track-powered interior lighting, sprung diaphragms and metal Macdonald-Cartier knuckle couplers: it is all here.
