Looking for the rebuilt switcher that served Union Pacific and many others for over twenty years? In the late 1970s UP had to replace or rebuild its aging SW7, SW9 and TR5A switchers. With new units at a premium, the Omaha Shops rebuilt the old ones in small batches between 1979 and 1984: 645 power assemblies, all-new wiring, two 36" fans salvaged from GP9s housed in a unique hood hump, a new sand box on the nose, and an FRA clean-cab interior with AAR control stand — and a refrigerator. The 75 SW10s later scattered to Ferromex, Canadian Pacific, shortlines and lessors; the most famous, ex-UP 1243 renumbered 96, served the Cheyenne steam program before being donated to the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in 2017.

This model depicts the Ferromex SW10 still in Union Pacific Armour Yellow, with the Ferrocarril Mexicano logo on the cab. Factory-installed ESU LokSound DCC and sound decoder and Mo-Power system. One road number is offered. Pre-order.
