Looking for a complete train that is truly out of the ordinary? This Rapido Trains two-car Budd Roger Williams set, in Amtrak Phase III colors, brings one of New England's most unusual trains to ready-to-run plastic for the very first time.

What sets this model apart is Rapido's signature prototype fidelity. Delivered to the New Haven in 1957, the Roger Williams was a six-car set of Budd RDCs modified for high-speed service into New York City: streamlined cab end cars, third-rail pickup shoes and small traction motors that let it run into Grand Central Terminal under electric power. Styled by architect Marcel Breuer and nicknamed the "Hot Rod" by crews, it was geared for 110 mph, had 50 hp more than a standard RDC and sat 7 inches lower. Split up into the New Haven's regular RDC pool after about a year of Boston–New York service, the cars went on to Penn Central and then Amtrak, where the cab cars wore several schemes until retirement in the mid-1980s. This version depicts cars #27 and #28 in the Phase III scheme, with the red, white and blue nose stripes they wore at the end of their careers. Designed from the original blueprints, the model features Rapido's smooth, proven in-floor RDC drive, an ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder, a MoPower capacitor and an insane level of body and underbody detail.
