Looking for a fast, modern four-axle unit for your freights — or for the head end of the 1980s Ski Train? The Rapido Trains EMD GP40 locomotive, in Rio Grande large-logo colors (black and orange), is exactly that kind of standout piece.

What sets this model apart is Rapido's signature prototype fidelity. This turbocharged four-axle unit (3,000 hp, EMD 16-645E3 engine) correctly reproduces the louvres, roof fans and version-specific detailing. In the 1980s, Rio Grande GP40s hauled the Ski Train from Denver to Winter Park through the Moffat Tunnel, teamed with a former PB B-unit converted into a HEP generator. A five-pole motor with dual flywheels, a heavy die-cast chassis, directional headlights and a detailed cab interior: it is all here. ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder.

Features

  • EMD GP40 four-axle locomotive with DCC and ESU sound
  • Rio Grande (D&RGW) large-logo livery, black and orange
