The legendary Rio Grande Ski Train in HO scale: this Rapido Trains three-car set of Tempo cars wears the classic D&RGW orange-and-silver passenger scheme, complete with Ski Train logos, with cars named after Colorado's peaks and towns.
What sets this model apart is Rapido's signature prototype fidelity. From 1940 to 2009, the Ski Train ran from Denver Union Station to the slopes of Winter Park, just outside the west portal of the Moffat Tunnel. In 1988, the train was re-equipped with 14 former CN/VIA Rail Tempo cars, built by Hawker Siddeley in 1968. Equipped with Head End Power (HEP), they required a dedicated generator — provided for years by the railroad's converted PB heater cars, behind GP40s and, from 2000, ex-Amtrak F40PHs. The model features a full multi-colour interior with individually installed seats, track-powered “Easy-Peasy” interior lighting operated by magnetic wand (included), and a fully detailed underbody.
