The Wheeling celebrates the 250th: Wheeling & Lake Erie EMD SD40-2 #1776, by ScaleTrains' Rivet Counter line, wears the railroad's own commemorative “America's 250th Anniversary” scheme.
What sets this model apart is Rivet Counter's signature prototype fidelity. Introduced in January 1972, the SD40-2 is one of EMD's most successful locomotives: over 3,900 units built through July 1984, a modular solid-state electrical system, the 3,000 hp 16-645E3 engine and HT-C three-axle trucks. WE 1776, ex-WE 6356, ex-LTEX 3651 and originally UP 3651 (3609-3658 series) built in December 1979, received its patriotic scheme in late 2025.
This DCC and sound version comes with a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 decoder with Full Throttle and turbocharged 16-645E3 sounds, and all the prototype-specific detailing the Rivet Counter line is known for.
